An Overview of Your Vision

Your eye is an amazing instrument that allows you to see the world around you with depth and clarity. In order to see clearly, the surface of your eye (called the cornea) is curved in order to help gather and focus light on the back of your eye (called the retina). When the corneal curve is perfect, light and images are focused perfectly on the retina.

For some people, the shape of the cornea is too curved or too flat, resulting in light focusing in front of the retina or behind the retina. This results in “nearsightedness” or “farsightedness.” In both cases, glasses or contacts can be used to help the eye properly focus light and images on the retina.

Normal Vision

Light is focused on the retina, allowing you to see close-up and at a distance.

Nearsightedness

Light is focused in front of the retina, making it difficult to see at a distance.

Farsightedness

Light is focused behind the retina, making it difficult to see close-up.

Today, there are more advanced options available to help reshape the cornea and create clearer vision without the need for corrective lenses like glasses and contacts.

What is Laser Vision Correction?

Laser vision correction procedures such as LASIK and PRK use a gentle excimer laser to reshape the cornea to allow it to perfectly focus light and images on the retina, resulting in improved vision without the need for glasses or contacts.

Laser vision correction has been performed on millions of people around the world and is one of the most proven and precise surgeries available today. It can restore your clear vision and reduce or eliminate your need for glasses and contacts.
