About Dr. Jaime Jiménez

Dr. Jiménez, Hattiesburg retina surgeon, attended medical school and residency at the Medical Sciences Campus (UPR), where he served as Chief Resident. He completed his fellowship-training in vitreo-retinal diseases and surgery at the University of Texas in Houston. Dr. Jiménez also served as Assistant Chief of Ophthalmology at Keesler Air Force Base where he received an Air Force Commendation Medal.

Dr. Jiménez was the first full-time vitreo retinal specialist in Southern Mississippi and has been caring for patients at Southern Eye Center for over 25 years. A fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retinal Surgeons, the Pan American Association of Ophthalmology, the European Retina Society and the International Ocular Inflammation Society, he also serves as a board member for the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi and the Partners for the Arts at the University of Southern Mississippi. He was actively involved in the Hattiesburg Mississippi Rotary Club from 1993-2005 and received the Paul Harris Fellow Award. He was recognized by the Mississppi Business Journal in 1999 as a “Top 40 Under 40 Leader” and in 2011 as a “Mississippi Healthcare Hero.” In 2016, Dr. Jiménez received the prestigious Boy Scouts of America “Silver Beaver Award.” He has been active in the Pine Burr council since 1993 and has also served on the Executive Board as Fundraising Chairman.
