Southern Eye Center Welcomes New Oculoplastic Surgeon, Dr. Margaret E. Phillips
We are proud to welcome Margaret E. Phillips, MD, celebrated oculoplastic surgeon and board-certified ophthalmologist, to our team starting in January of 2018!
Dr. Phillips attended Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama, graduating Summa Cum Laude in Biology. She received her medical degree from the University of Alabama in Birmingham, where she was a member of both the Gold Humanism Honor Society and the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. She then interned at the Physicians Medical Center Carraway in Birmingham, Alabama, and completed her ophthalmology residency at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland.
Dr. Phillips completed her fellowship training, accredited by the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, in oculoplastics at the University of Tennessee Hamilton Eye Institute in Memphis, Tennessee, and the Vanderbilt Eye Institute in Nashville, Tennessee. Prior to joining Southern Eye Center, she served as chief of oculoplastic surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas. She was also a recipient of the Dean’s Teaching Excellence Award from the University of Texas in Houston.
Dr. Phillips will be providing essential medical services to the Pine Belt, including reconstruction of eyelids after skin cancer excision, removal of tumors from eye sockets, correction of bulging eyes in thyroid eye disease, and the repair of orbital fractures. She will also be offering cosmetic procedures, including blepharoplasties, brow lifts, BOTOX injections, and fillers.
Dr. Phillips is the only full-time oculoplastic specialist with her level of experience and training in the Pine Belt.
