Seeing life’s special moments is a treasure. And sight itself is a previous gift. So when you have problems beyond vision correction, you need someone to trust. Mississippi’s first licensed surgery center devoted completely to care of patients with eye problems, the extensive education and experience of the doctors at SEC makes them the most qualified eye specialists in Southern Mississippi. While it has since been proven that outpatient procedures are safer, involving less risk of infections and problems than the same procedures done in hospitals, our founder Lynn B. McMahan M.D. was a United States pioneer in moving eye surgery out of the hospital. We call most of what we do procedures rather than surgery because the experience is so much different than a patients typical perception of surgery. Our patients are usually able to eat and do their regular activities right up to the time of the procedure and can even wear their own comfortable clothes into the room. In general, IV’s and general anesthesia are not necessary because only the eye, not the patient, is put to sleep. Patients often talk with the doctor during the procedure, which usually only takes a few minutes to perform. Rarely do our procedures last over an hour. In short, SEC our goal is to keep you comfortable and relaxed during your entire experience. While we’ve made having a procedure done at our clinic more comfortable for you, you can rest assured we’ve done so without sacrificing safety standards. Without a doubt, Southern Eye Center meets all the national, state, Medicare and AAAHC requirements for a more typical surgery center including climate controlled sterile environment, anesthesia personal, RN’s certified by Advanced Cardiace Life Support (ACLS) and certified surgery technicians.
Whether you need treatment for cataracts or glaucoma, a cornea transplant, or LASIK, one of Southern Eye Center’s specialists can give you the medical attention you need. Because we know that to enjoy life’s treasures, your eyes are everything!
